Dr. Uday Patel serves as director of Orthopedic Surgery at CalvertHealth, where he accepted the role of building an orthopedic surgery practice that launched in February 2025. He designed the program to care for all patients in a timely manner, recognizing a significant need to serve uninsured and state-insured patients in the area. Within four weeks, the practice was caring for the full range of orthopedic conditions, and Patel worked closely with the emergency room and urgent care centers to ensure access for patients needing urgent treatment.
Patel has immersed himself in advancing CalvertHealth’s mission of serving its population as a trusted leader in healthcare. He was appointed chairman of the Perioperative Governance Committee, which oversees all operating room operations, and named to the Governance Council, where physician leaders help manage the medical group. He serves on the board of directors and contributes to committees spanning planning and marketing, electronic health record implementation, surgical services and new physician recruitment and onboarding. Since 2015, he has also been medical director for Prince Frederick Surgery Center.
In just nine months as chairman, Patel helped improve first-case on-time starts, reduce cancellations, strengthen block time utilization and increase the efficiency of surgical scheduling, building an engaged group focused on safety. From its first day, the orthopedics practice has expanded coverage to everyone, providing access for those in need, especially patients with fractures.
A certified yoga instructor, Patel teaches mindfulness, meditation, pranayama and stress reduction to the medical staff, an effort that has been well received.
Patel completed his orthopedic surgery residency at New England Medical Center, Tufts University, after earning his Doctor of Medicine from Albert Einstein College of Medicine and a Bachelor of Science in biology and community health from Tufts University.
