Maria Moise has spent two decades as a registered nurse and charge nurse at Doctors Community Medical Center, part of Luminis Health, where compassionate care, servant leadership and a commitment to empowering others have defined her practice. Her dedication has earned recognition including the DAISY Award in 2025, numerous DAISY nominations from patients and colleagues and Employee of the Year honors from Luminis Health in 2011. In 2025, she attended the Magnet & Pathway Conference in Atlanta, an experience that deepened her commitment to nursing leadership and evidence-based practice, and she has reached the highest level of the nurse clinical ladder.
Moise’s passion for nursing took root in childhood as she watched her mother, a certified gerontology nursing assistant, serve others with dignity. She often accompanied her mother to nursing homes to visit the sick, and their home became a refuge for many. In 1995, she migrated to the United States to pursue that calling, earning an associate degree in nursing from Prince George’s Community College in 2005, a bachelor’s degree from Stevenson University in 2014 and a master’s degree as a nurse practitioner specializing in gerontology from Walden University in 2017.
At the hospital, Moise serves as a preceptor, mentor, resource nurse and committee member, guiding clinical practice and building confidence among nurses at every stage. As chair and founder of the Celebration Committee, she works to strengthen team morale, supporting colleagues through moments of loss and celebrating their milestones. Her service extends beyond the hospital through When We Pray, which provides community health fairs, financial support for a pharmacy student in Uganda who graduated in 2025 and three shipping containers of hurricane relief aid sent to Jamaica.
Her vigilance has proven lifesaving. During a bedside handoff, Moise discovered a patient bleeding heavily after a wound debridement, applied pressure and alerted the physician, preventing a potentially catastrophic hemorrhage.
That blend of clinical skill and presence reflects the legacy she strives to build: saving lives when possible, comforting when needed and supporting patients and their families through every stage of their healthcare journey.
