Frederick to expand transit program for elderly, disabled residents
Frederick County’s Taxi Access Program will soon expand services for older adults and people with disabilities, according to the Transit Services of Frederick County.
Starting April 1, TAP will offer these residents more ways to travel independently by adding two new transportation providers. This expansion aims to give riders more flexibility for trips to medical appointments, social activities and other errands.
Frederick County partnered with MJM Transportation and KM Comfort Carriers to offer the expanded program, according to a Wednesday news release, which will enable eligible TAP users to book rides directly with any participating provider at their convenience.
“These partnerships strengthen our commitment to accessible, reliable transportation for people in Frederick County,” said Jaime McKay, Frederick County’s deputy director of transit services, in a statement.
“Adding additional providers to TAP ensures riders have the support they need to travel safely and independently.”
Riders will still receive TAP subsidies toward trip costs. The TAP expansion will offer same‑day service, meaning passengers can schedule trips without advance notice.
“We’re proud to give TAP riders more choices and peace of mind,” MJM Transportation CEO Rob Turner said in the release.
TAP, a supplemental transportation option for Frederick County residents registered with Transit-plus, allocates subsidized taxi fare funds on a monthly basis. The program enables riders to patronize participating providers for trips anywhere in the county, according to a release.
