A man has been sentenced to 40 years in for of a minor, among other charges.

Derrick Henderson, 51, was sentenced on March 12 to 40 years in prison following a two-day trial. Henderson was convicted in sexual abuse of a minor, attempted rape in the second degree, attempted sexual offense in the fourth degree, and sexual solicitation of a minor. If Henderson is released from prison, he will be under lifetime sexual offender supervision and be required to register as a Tier III sexual offender for life.

According to the Wicomico County State’s Attorney’s Office, in 2024, Henderson sexually abused a minor in his household. At the time, Henderson was on probation for a separate criminal conviction, and had a major prior criminal record.

“The survivor in this case displayed immense courage in disclosing the sexual abuse, and in testifying at trial,” Wicomico County State’s Attorney Jamie L. Dykes said in a statement. “I hope the Court’s powerful sentence in this case has afforded this survivor some degree of peace.”
