MD basketball coach charged with sex offense against minor, more
Stephen Decatur boys basketball coach Bryon Johnson has been arrested and charged with felony 3rd degree sex offense involving a child under 14, and more.
UPDATE: Sex offense charges dropped against MD basketball coach
Johnson, who was named the Bayside South Coach of the year for the 2023-2024 season, was arrested Jan. 8 and denied bond that same day in Worcester County District Court.
According to court documents obtained by Delmarva Now, Johnson is charged with:
- Felony sex offense in the third degree with a child under age 14.
- Misdemeanor offense for sex offense in the fourth degree, sexual contact.
- Misdemeanor assault in the second degree.
Worcester County Public Schools said that Johnson is an employee of Worcester County Public Schools, and he is currently on administrative leave. His role is educational assistant and head coach of the Stephen Decatur High School men’s basketball program.
“Worcester County Public Schools (WCPS) cannot comment on personnel matters; however, the school system took all necessary steps to ensure the safety of our students as soon as school system staff was notified of the allegations. WCPS has also made sure that support is available to any student or staff member should they need it through our school counseling office,” WCPS said in a statement.
