Maryland Philanthropy Network

Danista E. Hunte serves as president and CEO of the Maryland Philanthropy Network, where she leads through transparency, collaboration and consensus building to enhance organizational decision making and employee well-being.

Hunte believes strong leadership requires providing clear information and fostering an environment where team members learn from each other. She demonstrates appreciation through handwritten notes of gratitude, afternoon snack breaks and half-day Fridays during summer months. Her organization also provides a puzzle in the common area to encourage community building and offer creative brain breaks. Under her leadership, employees receive generous paid time off that they are actively supported and encouraged to use, flexible work schedules, quality health care, meaningful professional development opportunities and the tools and resources needed to excel in their roles.

As federal policies shift and Maryland faces budget pressures, the Maryland Philanthropy Network serves as a convener and resource for its members. The organization provides timely, accurate information about changes in federal grant programs and state budgets, helping funders make informed decisions. The network regularly hosts issue area experts and government agency leaders to inform members about priorities and explore public-private partnerships. The organization has created new virtual connection opportunities, a listserv and funding trackers that allow members to understand how budget cuts impact the communities they support.

Hunte’s commitment to community service extends beyond her professional role. She serves on the boards of Sisters Academy of Baltimore and Baltimore’s Promise, participates actively in the Vassar College Alumni Association, serves as a church trustee and remains an engaged parent at her child’s high school. She believes everyone should contribute their time, talent and skills to strengthen community institutions and create opportunities for connection and inclusion.
