Marian House

The organization operates as a holistic, healing community providing transitional housing and comprehensive rehabilitative services for women and families. Marian House creates a safe, sober and loving environment that challenges women to respect themselves and others while confronting emotional and socioeconomic barriers on their path to independence.
Leadership at Marian House reflects an unwavering commitment to women’s empowerment. The Leadership Team comprises 100% women, with four women of color holding key positions and three holding master’s degrees in social work. This female-centered approach extends throughout the organization, where women constitute 84% of the 43-member staff and 81% of the Board of Directors.
The organization’s mentorship philosophy centers on individualized, client-centered and trauma-informed approaches. All staff members receive training to utilize these methods, recognizing that each woman’s journey requires unique support.
Through its programming, Marian House combats inequality by providing affordable housing and comprehensive services including therapy, case management, education, financial literacy, employment assistance and family reunification to participants. In 2020, the organization received the historic Woman’s Industrial Exchange building, expanding capacity while collaborating with the Maryland Women’s Heritage Center.
Over 42 years, Marian House has served 3,300 women and 1,300 children. Currently serving approximately 265 women annually through its Transitional Supportive Housing Program, the organization achieves remarkable outcomes: 79% of women exit with increased income, 67% gain employment and 83% transition to permanent housing.
Looking ahead, Marian House will continue enhancing its supportive housing and comprehensive services by recruiting qualified, driven women committed to transforming lives. The organization remains dedicated to raising awareness, building community relationships and securing sustainable funding to ensure services remain available for future generations.
