giant AT&T has added new cell sites in a dozen Maryland counties in an effort to enhance the state’s coverage and capacity, the company announced Wednesday.

The 5G network expansion will enable Maryland residents, businesses and public safety officials to experience FirstNet® with fast, reliable and secure connectivity, according to officials.

According to AT&T, FirstNet is the only nationwide wireless communications network designed and built specifically for first responders, nurses, physicians and the extended public safety community.

The enhancements also bring Band 14 to the area. In emergencies, Band 14 can be cleared and locked exclusively for FirstNet subscribers, according to an AT&T release.

The new sites are expected to boost coverage in the following areas:

  • Allegany County: Cumberland around Reservoir Avenue and Constitution Park.
  • Anne Arundel County: Crofton around Tilghman Drive and Riedel Road.
  • Calvert County: Lusby around Little Cove Point Road
  • Charles County: Port Tobacco along Port Tobacco Road and Guys Place.
  • Frederick County: Frederick around Fort Detrick; Frederick around South Jefferson Street and Scotty Bus Lane.
  • Garrett County: Oakland around Glass Drive and Harold Brant Road.
  • Harford County: Joppa along Winters Run Road near Constant Friendship.
  • Howard County: Fulton along Old Columbia Road near Reservoir High School; Columbia on Merriweather Drive in the Merriweather District.
  • Prince Georges County: Capitol Heights around Sheriff Road and Addison Road; Upper Marlboro around Chew Road and Crain Highway; Hyattsville along Martin Luther King, Jr. Highway and Ardwick Ardmore Road.
  • St. Mary’s County: St. Mary’s City along Mattapany Road near St. Celia’s Catholic Church.
  • Wicomico County: Salisbury downtown near the Wicomico Civic Center; downtown Sharptown.
  • Worcester County: Berlin around Cary Road and Worcester Highway.

“These new sites will give our first responders the mobile broadband connections they need to keep our communities safe and respond to emergencies. No other carrier has a dedicated network like FirstNet,” said Katie McEvoy, AT&T’s’ regional director of External Affairs in Maryland.

“What’s more, these new sites give more Marylanders more access to mobile connectivity they need.”
