Owner/Attorney, The Law Offices of Kerri Cohen

As a native of Baltimore, Kerri Cohen has been practicing locally for over 20 years and established her private practice after spending 11 years with the State of Maryland in Baltimore City at the Office of the Public Defender, serving as an experienced criminal defense trial attorney. She represented clients facing serious charges such as homicide, rape, robbery, and drug offenses, among others. Attorney Cohen has tried hundreds of cases before judges and juries in the Circuit Court, District Court, and Juvenile Courts.

Cohen graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Arizona in 1998 with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and English. After completing her undergraduate studies, she returned to the Baltimore area to attend the University of Baltimore School of Law, earning her Juris Doctor in 2001. During law school, she gained practical experience working with the Family Law Clinic and earned a Certificate in Mediation. While awaiting her bar examination results, she served as a Law Clerk to the Honorable Judge John Philip Miller in the Circuit Court for Baltimore City. Her clerkship included rotations in Family Law and Misdemeanor Jury Trial Courts, where her interest in Family Law and Criminal Defense was solidified.

What’s the most important thing you do in your job?

A family law attorney’s most important role is to assist clients navigate tough emotional legal issues with understanding, honesty, and care, so clients can make smart choices about their families and futures.

What qualities do you need to be a successful family law practitioner?

To succeed as a family law practitioner, it takes empathy, patience, resilience, and strong advocacy. By balancing clear communication, practical solutions, and professionalism, I work with clients to navigate complex transitions during some of the most challenging times in their lives.

Outside of your legal practice, what activities or interests are you passionate about?

Outside of work, I enjoy traveling, spending quality time with family and friends, and prioritizing self-care. Whether it’s exploring new places, relaxing at home, playing tennis, going to a Ravens game, or just taking some time to recharge, these things help me stay grounded, motivated, and ready to tackle whatever’s ahead. I recently started a semester as an adjunct professor at CCBC, so work is definitely a part of my life, but I enjoy finding that balance!
