Paul D. Manrique serves as associate dean for student affairs at the University of Baltimore School of Law, where he has overseen comprehensive student support services since May 2019. In this role, Manrique manages academic advising, wellness programs, student engagement, orientation and signature events with a focus on inclusion and community building.

Since joining UB Law, Manrique has implemented several transformative initiatives. He created the law school’s Diversity Council, bringing together students, faculty and staff to strengthen the school’s culture of inclusion and belonging. Manrique designed and launched UB LEADS, the law school’s first comprehensive orientation and leadership development program, featuring an off-campus capstone leadership retreat and diversity workshop at Camp Puh’tok in Monkton. His student retention strategy significantly reduced transfer-out rates through proactive, individualized advice and support.

Under Manrique’s leadership, the law school expanded wellness resources to include, for the first time, a law student-specific mental health counselor conducting weekly in-person sessions. Before his current role, he spearheaded the Moreau First Year Experience course at the University of Notre Dame, a graduation-required seminar emphasizing diversity, personal development and ethical leadership for all incoming students. Manrique also practiced as a litigator and served as outside counsel to several Chicago-area universities while working at Gonzalez Saggio & Harlan LLP, then the nation’s largest minority-owned law firm.

Manrique’s mentoring approach is exemplified by his work with an incoming first-year student facing significant mental health challenges and classroom difficulties. Through regular check-ins, consistent support and strategic resource connections, he helped the students navigate their struggles and ultimately graduate this past spring. The student is currently studying for the bar exam.

In 2020, Manrique received the Law Staff Mentoring Award from the University of Baltimore Student Bar Association, a recognition particularly meaningful as it came in his first academic year and was based on student nominations.
