Baltimore Gas and Electric
Tamla Olivier serves as president and chief executive officer of Baltimore Gas and Electric Company (BGE), a subsidiary of Exelon Corporation. Olivier and her leadership team oversee safety, reliability, customer service, financial performance and BGE’s commitment to delivering value to customers while fostering an equitable energy transition. BGE is the nation’s first gas utility and currently Maryland’s largest electric and natural gas utility, serving more than 1.3 million electric and 700,000 gas customers in central Maryland.
Starting in 2021, Olivier served as chief operating officer for Exelon’s Pepco Holdings, the parent company of Atlantic City Electric, Delmarva Power and Pepco. Olivier and her team were responsible for the three utilities’ overall operations. During her tenure, the company achieved record reliability while delivering large-scale infrastructure upgrades, including Pepco’s Waterfront substation and Delmarva Power’s Indian River transmission project, bringing a range of benefits to customers and communities.
Regarding challenges, Olivier said she approaches them with a deep understanding of the complexities inherent in leading BGE, particularly in a region as dynamic and diverse as Maryland. She noted that tackling challenges requires proactive leadership, strategic planning, teamwork and fostering a culture of resilience and innovation.
Olivier explained that she hopes to power Maryland through workforce and economic development. At BGE, they provide opportunities and promote growth across their service territory by funding university scholarships, installing youth STEM Centers and training individuals of all ages for rewarding careers in the utility industry through their High School Career Academy and Workforce Collaborative programs.
Olivier is a MedStar Health board member and also serves on the Quality, Safety & Professional Affairs Committee and Finance Committee. She is also a board member of Century Aluminum and Baltimore’s Promise. She is the vice-chair for Catholic Charities of Maryland and a member of the Executive, Nominating and Steering Committees.
Olivier said she has learned to embrace agility and tenacity, noting that the energy landscape is always changing, but they are committed to evolving with it.
