Morton began community involvement in 2002, joining the Association for Corporate Growth’s Maryland Chapter, where he has served as board member and chair for both the Maryland Chapter and global organization. In 2005, he became a trustee of the Endowment of the University of Maryland.
Morton’s legal expertise has earned consistent recognition. He has been named one of the Best Lawyers in America for 15 consecutive years in mergers and acquisitions and private equity law, earning Baltimore Lawyer of the Year honors in 2022, 2023 and 2025. Chambers USA recognized him in Corporate/Mergers & Acquisitions in Maryland from 2010-2025. He stands among just three lawyers nationally inducted into Legal 500’s Hall of Fame for mergers and acquisition.
Recent leadership roles include serving as treasurer of Maryland Legal Aid since 2023 and joining the Maryland Advisory Board for Teach for America Baltimore in 2022. He has also participated in Catholic Charities Leadership Breakfast since 2023.
In 2025, Morton received the Distinguished Alumnus Award from his alma mater, recognizing his lifetime achievement and dedication to the institution that played a transformative role in his life, where he also previously served on the board.
Reflecting on leadership, Morton said, “Persistence and optimism can shape the future.” When discussing current challenges, he explained, “In various roles, we are facing challenges caused by the unique political landscape. We are navigating those challenges by soberly assessing those changes, contingency planning and not losing sight of the core values that drive the organizations being impacted.”
Morton described his approach to community impact: “My wife and I share a mission to love, serve, and build. I do my best to reflect that mission in my family, community and professional efforts.”
A fun personal detail: Morton hosted a college radio program called Rockers Radio during his university years.
