Markham Law Firm

Leslie Miller serves as senior associate at Markham Law Firm in Bethesda, where she specializes in family law services. Miller focuses her practice on the division of retirement assets in divorce proceedings; an area she has developed expertise in since joining the firm in 2015.

Miller earned her Juris Doctor from the University of Baltimore School of Law in 2016 and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communications, Legal Institutions, Economics & Government from American University, completed in 2011. She also obtained a minor in Mathematics and a Certificate in Leadership Studies from American University that same year. Before law school, she graduated from Simsbury High School in 2007.

Her career progression at Markham Law Firm began as a law clerk in 2015, advancing to associate and then to her current senior associate role. Before joining the firm, Miller gained experience as a law clerk with the U.S. Capitol Police in 2015, a judicial intern with the Circuit Court for Frederick County, Maryland under The Honorable Theresa M. Adams in 2014, and as a paralegal with Paradiso, Taub, Sinay, Owel & Kostecka from 2011 to 2013.

Miller has demonstrated significant leadership within professional organizations. She currently serves as president of the Women’s Bar Association of Maryland, Montgomery County Chapter and co-chairs the Bar Association of Montgomery County Leadership Academy through 2025. Beginning in June 2025, she will serve as Montgomery County Representative on the Maryland State Bar Association Board of Governors through 2027 and as an at-large member of the Maryland State Bar Association Family Law Action Council through 2028.

“The ABA is publishing a book I have co-authored regarding the division of certain complex retirement plans offered by international organizations, so being able to complete the research, drafting and revisions, I believe, is an incredible professional accomplishment,” Miller said. “Release date is the Fall of 2025.”

“I thrive in the detail-oriented nature of the practice of retirement orders and helping parties and counsel craft or re-craft agreements to work within the confines of a retirement plan’s rules,” Miller said. “My creativity to make these two (usually at odds) perspectives with a calming and reassuring attitude makes me stand out from my peers.”
