“Creating ‘Books Breaking Borders: Books to End Educational Bankruptcy’ is my proudest accomplishment,” Nelson said. “The community action project aims to educate the whole family in comfortable environments without shame. Helping to increase confidence in young children through oratory contests, spelling bees, the program also welcomes interns from the community to be part of the effort to end illiteracy.”
Nelson’s commitment to inspiring change centers on her platform’s purpose. She considers herself a public service agent to change, involving herself in causes and aligning her purpose with organizations that work to impact and better the lives of young people. Her internship programs have tripled in size over recent years, now partnering with the University of Maryland’s MADE InTERPship program.
