Joseph Ochipinti MBA, CEO of UnitedHealthcare of the Mid-Atlantic, is a dedicated health care executive with more than 25 years in the industry. Overseeing UnitedHealthcare’s Employer & Individual businesses, Ochipinti is responsible for health benefit plans serving more than 2.8 million members in Maryland, Virginia, West Virginia and Washington.
Ochipinti’s leadership is rooted in a servant philosophy, focusing on the interests of employees, customers and the community. He champions health care equity and advocates for value-based care to deliver affordable solutions that improve consumers’ lives. Under his guidance, UnitedHealthcare launched the innovative Surest plan in the mid-Atlantic region, providing consumers with transparent, upfront cost and coverage information.
Community engagement is a cornerstone of Ochipinti’s approach. He secured nearly $1.3 million in funding for various organizations and spearheaded a partnership with the Maryland Chamber of Commerce to host a Teacher Externship Program. Ochipinti also facilitated bringing the Maryland Cycling Classic to Baltimore, aligning with UnitedHealth care’s mission to promote healthier lives.
“I deeply believe in a ‘servant leadership’ philosophy. In practice, this means serving the interests of my employees, our customers and the community around us,” Ochipinti said.
Ochipinti’s commitment to health equity is personal, inspired by his son’s premature birth and his experience adopting two children. This led him to create the Children’s Adoption Celebration foundation, raising awareness and funds for potential adoptive parents requiring financial support.
