Chrissy M. Thornton, MBA, president and CEO of Associated Black Charities, brings a wealth of experience to her role leading the Baltimore-based nonprofit. With a career spanning various sectors, Thornton’s journey to leadership has been shaped by diverse experiences that instilled in her a deep sense of humility and appreciation for the opportunity to lead.

“My trajectory to leadership is riddled with a number of job tasks and assignments a lot of people wouldn’t want to do,” Thornton said. “These experiences have created humility around work, which makes me truly appreciate the opportunity to lead now.”

Thornton’s commitment and innovation have driven significant growth at Associated Black Charities. Under her leadership, the organization has seen a 61.74% increase in revenue and implemented several new initiatives, including a regional Equity at Work Conference and monthly Community Convos listening sessions.

Beyond her work at Associated Black Charities, Thornton is actively involved in numerous civic and nonprofit organizations, including the boards of Baltimore Center Stage, The Arc Baltimore and Morgan State University College of Liberal Arts Advisory Board.

“In my perspective, the most crucial personal trait for being a good leader is an unwavering commitment to excellence and maintaining high standards of quality in all aspects of leadership,” Thornton shared.
