Robert L. Edmonson II
Commanding General
Aberdeen Proving Ground

What’s been your biggest success?
When I think about my success, it’s the success of our collective Army team. Helping others become all they can has been the privilege of my career. Investing time in young soldiers not only helps the Army of today, but the Army of 2030 and beyond. America’s Army has endless possibilities. As a leader, ensuring my teammates know their value makes the Army stronger.
Who have been the biggest mentors in your career?
I am very fortunate to have had a long Army career full of phenomenal leaders. I have mentors with whom I have developed life-long relationships. One important lesson I’ve learned is mentorship can come from multiple sources. Your peers have valuable information and experience, too. I am continuously impressed by the new talent we bring into the Army and the world experience they bring with them.
What are your hopes for the state or your community this year?
There is currently a race for talent. I believe this region is well-postured to attract local talent. The Army has provided us with a wealth of opportunities, and it is the responsibility of all of us to inspire the next generation. I look forward to building the bridge between the past, present, and future generations, and paving the way for our future workforce to “Be All You Can Be.”
