Patrick Moran

He has worked for the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees Union (AFSCME) for nearly 20 years. Moran spent 10 years as its area organizing director and was named to his current role as president of Council 3 in 2012.
Recently, workers at the Maryland Office of the Public Defender, which employs more than 600 people, announced they were joining the AFSCME union. They first announced their intentions in August of 2020.
The University of Michigan graduate with a bachelor’s degree in political science and government oversees one of the largest unions in the state, one with more than 25,000 members. AFSCME Maryland was born in the early 1970s as state and higher education workers came together to focus specifically on their issues and to win collective bargaining rights.
Before joining AFSCME, Moran was an organizing director with the Laborers’ International Union of North America Local 78 as well as a lead organizer for LIUNA, the Laborers’ International Union of North America.

Listening is more important than talking.

Seeing our membership grow in the face of anti-union laws and administrations.
