John Allen manages Well Fargo’s community banking activities in the Greater D.C./Maryland region. In this role, he oversees more than 800 team members serving customers through more than 105 branches and 150 ATMs.
Allen has held several key positions at various banking institutions over the past 30 years. Prior to joining Wells Fargo, Allen served as the executive vice president, region president for Pennsylvania and Maryland with Santander Bank.
What’s the most important lesson you’ve learned in your career?
Most important: the best way to exceed is through intentionality and purpose. Always read the room to identify other individuals worthy of an opportunity and personally send the elevator down to pick them up.
What’s been your biggest success?
It’s finding the balance between professional and personal growth and celebrating the liberation it provides.
Who have been the biggest mentors in your career?
My late mother, Barbara F. Allen, who taught me perseverance; my aunt, who taught me sustainability; and David Miree, a role model who showed me it’s possible for a Black man to balance walking in his truth all while navigating the professional landscape.
What do you do to unplug in your free time?
Travel, cook, read and relax.
