Devereaux joined Goucher College in 2019 and helped steer the college through the pandemic. He was instrumental in developing the college’s new strategic plan and in overseeing the development of its Campus Master Plan, a 15-year vision for the college’s 287-acre campus and includes plans for a Science Innovation Center.
His vision for the college includes a renewed commitment to global education and diversity.
“Kent has led with strength and compassion during unprecedented times, and the board has full confidence in his ability to continue to help Goucher grow, adapt and innovate as it has for the past 138 years,” said Lisa Stromberg, Goucher College Board of Trustees chair, in a press release announcing the extension of Devereaux’s contract through 2027.
“Kent is intently focused on the future success of our highly regarded and beloved institution. His enthusiasm for expanding access to the rigorous liberal arts education for which Goucher has always been known is palpable,” Stromberg said.
Devereaux was educated as a composer and visual artist. He joined the college with more than 30 years of hands-on experience in higher education management and online technologies, according to the website. He was even a Fulbright fellow in Indonesia.
In the late 1990s, Devereaux served as senior vice president for editorial and product development at Encyclopedia Britannica and helped transform of the print
publisher to an online business.
