Executive Director, The Arc of Howard County

Katie Collins-Ihrke is the executive director of The Arc of Howard County, an organization devoted to helping people with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities, in August 2022. She took over after eight years as executive director for Accessible Resources for Independence Inc., a center for independent living in Glen Burnie. Prior to that, she worked in various capacities for the Arc in Maryland.

A passionate advocate of disability issues, Collins-Ihrke earned both a Master of Business Administration and a Master of Science in nonprofit and association management from the University of Maryland Global Campus.

What do you think is the number one challenge working women face?

As a mother of two, a wife and a working woman I believe that balancing work responsibilities with personal life commitments, such as family, child care, household chores and other personal obligations can be demanding and often challenging for working women. This challenge is particularly pronounced due to societal expectations and gender roles that persist.
