After earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Wisconsin, Monica Basche worked in regulatory compliance for the software company Agora Inc. and taught English in Moscow before enrolling at the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law.
In law school, she was the executive articles editor and worked as a student attorney in the Gender Violence Clinic, representing clients in family and civil law matters.
After earning her law degree in 2016, Basche clerked for a judge on the Supreme Court of Maryland and then for a judge in the U.S. District Court for Maryland before joining the law firm of Brown Goldstein & Levy in 2019.
With Brown Goldstein & Levy, Basche represents clients in civil rights cases, including disability rights, housing discrimination, employment discrimination, and prisoners’ rights. She also has experience with commercial litigation and business disputes.

Basche has served as treasurer for the Bar Association of Baltimore City Young Lawyers Division and co-chair of its Public Service Committee.
She now serves on the board of Maryland CASA Association, which trains volunteer court-appointed special advocates to speak for the interests of children under court protection and was a member of the Maryland State Bar Association’s Young Lawyers’ Section Committee.
In her six years as an attorney, Best Lawyers have recognized Basche as “One to Watch” for civil rights law, commercial litigation and litigation, and been named as a member of the National Trial Lawyers Top 40 Under 40 for two consecutive years.
