Erica LeMon has been director of advocacy for Children and Families with the Annapolis-based Maryland Legal Aid, a private, nonprofit law firm that provides legal services to low-income people in the state of Maryland since 2016.
Before that, LeMon was a senior attorney with Randall & Sonner in Baltimore for eight years and a Permanency Court Coordinator with the Maryland Judiciary for 2 1/2 years.
A 1995 graduate of the West Virginia University School of Law, LeMon is a member of the Alliance of Black Women Attorneys of Maryland, an affiliate of the National Bar Association, and president-elect of the Everett J. Waring / Juanita Jackson Mitchell Law Society of Howard County.
She is also a board member of the Monumental City Bar Foundation, a nonprofit charitable 501(c)(3) corporate entity that is the service arm of the Monumental City Bar Association, Baltimore’s oldest and largest minority bar association. She also serves as state coordinator for the National Association of Counsel for Children, which trains and certifies attorneys who represent children and families and advocates for policy reform to help young people and families.
In addition, LeMon serves on the Maryland State Bar Association’s Judicial Nominating committee and Family Law Legislative subcommittee. She has appeared before the Court of Special Appeals and provided oversight for numerous appellate cases and has testified and assisted with bills before the Maryland legislature.
“Erica LeMon has significant experience in child advocacy and family law and has been in the field for over two decades,” wrote Ian Bravo, marketing assistant for Maryland Legal Aid. “She has represented clients in child support, custody, contempt, modifications, pendente lite and other family hearings.
“Lemon has participated in numerous settlement/pretrial conferences, shelter and review hearings,” he added, “in addition to some detention hearings, and DJS and Developmental Disabilities Administration co-commitment proceedings.”
