Nikki Thompson’s career has spanned all levels of government. Before working as director of legislative affairs at the office of Baltimore City Council President Nick J. Mosby, she worked as an aide to now U.S. Sen. Chris Van Hollen, D-Md., and as the associate director of the D.C. government’s office of policy and legislative affairs.
“My commitment is actually to being the change that I’d like to see,” she says. “I am very committed to embodying ideals of progress and equity in policy, as our wildest dreams are only possible when we’re committed to doing the work of creating change. It’s the least that I can do to honor the legacies of the women who have been the backbone of their communities long before I was given this opportunity.”
Thompson currently works with the NAACP’s “Next Gen” program, which aims to recruit young leadership and encourage involvement in local branches of the organization. She also serves on the board of the Prince George’s County NAACP, Interfaith Action for Human Rights and I Am, We Are, an organization that aims to empower youth.
She holds a law degree from Howard University School of Law and a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida.
