Melody M. McCrea is an advocate for advancing equity as the assistant vice president and relationship manager for M&T Bank’s Women and Minority Owned Business Banking team in greater Baltimore.

At the bank, she launched Crucial Conversations, which addressed social injustice and racial inequality and then implemented actions to help, such as improving access to career development for minorities and women and improving education and allyship.

“Honestly, my goal was never to lead or be recognized but to serve my community and organization,” McCrea said. “My hope is to inspire other young women to continue to be passionate about service and to strive to make their communities and organizations better through their service.”

McCrea is working on her MBA from the University of Maryland and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Howard University. She is an active volunteer, participating as a superhero in Stocks in the Future, treasurer of the Maryland Community Health Initiatives Inc. and is a facilitator for empowerment group Girls to Women. She also worked with the Big Sister, Big Brother program.

“I want all young women to realize true leadership is becoming the change they seek and encouraging others around you to do the same,” McCrea said.
