In her role as national youth coordinator in the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Office of Partnerships and Public Engagement, Kourtney Wilhemenia Hollingsworth is deeply involved in finding solutions to challenges facing rural and underserved communities – especially, of course, youths.
She has a long history in youth development and has trained youths in three different countries.
She inspires change, she said, by being her authentic self.
“I empower people by allowing their lights to shine with mine. This way we help light the path for others,” she said.
Hollingsworth earned a Ph.D. in advanced statistical analysis and technology education at William Carey University in Mississippi – one of three degrees she earned in two years.
For her, the biggest challenge facing working women is overcoming stereotypes and believing in themselves enough to question the status quo. “Your playing small does not serve the world,” she said.
While she cites her most significant professional accomplishment as following her passion and not allowing anyone to limit her journey, Hollingsworth is also a big believer in serving others.
“By serving others, you heal yourself,” she said.
