A life sciences firm that focuses on public health threats expects to receive $261 million after a federal agency exercised an option on its anthrax vaccine contract.

Inc. announced Tuesday that the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority, part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, exercised its first contract option to buy doses of AV7909 anthrax vaccine for delivery into the Strategic National Stockpile over 12 months.

The option is part of a 2016 contract with a five-year base period of performance to develop the vaccine for post-exposure treatment of anthrax disease and to deliver an initial three million doses to the stockpile, The options allow for procurement of up to an additional 50 million doses.
