New wine club supports Md. nonprofit’s endangered animals program

A Silver Spring-based nonprofit is launching a wine club and two new wines to support its effort to protect threatened animals.
The Association of Zoos and Aquariums is working with Wines That Rock LLC on the new Wildlife Wine Club, in which all of AZAM’s net proceeds support their SAFE: Saving Animals From Extinction initiative, the association announced Wednesday. The club launches on Friday, which is Endangered Species Day.
The first two wines, African Lion Cabernet Sauvignon and Sea Turtle Monterey Chardonnay, feature endangered wildlife on the label, are priced at $29.95 each.
The wines are available for preorder at wildlifewineclub.org, and will also be available for purchase through AZA-accredited zoos and aquariums, the association said in a news release. Plans for future bottles may include black rhinos, orangutans, Asian elephants, sharks and rays, or giraffes, according to the association.
