Baltimore tax preparer, state employee indicted on theft charges

A Baltimore tax preparer who also is an employee with the Maryland Department of Human Services was indicted Monday for felony theft and willfully filing false taxes.

Floyd Briscoe Wright, 65, was charged with stealing more than $225,000, according to the Office of the State Prosecutor. Wright owned and operated Briscoe & Associates LLC but was not licensed as a tax preparer in Maryland, according to prosecutors.

Wright allegedly filed fraudulent adjusted gross incomes using false charitable contributions, inflated business losses and fictitious businesses, among other methods, according to prosecutors.

Wright was indicted Anne Arundel County Circuit Court.
