Lawyer enlists colleagues to help solve murder

Warren Brown was watching the news the other night when he saw the story of Baltimore police releasing a person of interest in the August shooting death of 3-year-old McKenzie Elliott. He saw the “agony on the face” of Elliott’s father, Anthony Lipford.

Brown happened to be with his 4-year-old grandson as he watched the story.

“I was almost moved to tears imagining if that happened to my grandson,” Brown said in an interview Friday afternoon.

So the veteran criminal defense lawyer decided to take action. He has penned a letter, a copy of which is below, that he plans to send out to more than 60 of his colleagues asking them to talk to their clients to see if they have any information that could lead to the arrest of McKenzie’s killer.

Brown acknowledged the conversations might not lead anywhere but he hopes if someone does have information, a lawyer can serve as an intermediary between that person and the police.

“It would be a starting point and keep this little girl’s on the front-burner,” he said.

Even if the clients don’t have information, Brown is hoping that starting conversations might encourage others in the community to come forward with what they know.

“Hopefully it will light a fuse and get people thinking outside the box,” he said.
