State gets funding to widen Route 175

The Maryland Department of Transportation will be awarded $10 million in federal funding to widen Route 175 at to cut down on congestion and improve safety, it was announced Tuesday. The project will improve Maryland 175 (Annapolis Road) between Disney and Reece roads in Anne Arundel County, leading to a major gate to Fort Meade. Roadway widening also includes construction of sidewalks, on-road bicycle lanes and a multi-use hiker-biker trail. The project will turn this portion of 175 from an undivided two-lane road to a divided six-lane road. The announcement came from Maryland’s U.S. senators, Barbara A. Mikulski and Ben Cardin, and Rep. C.A. Dutch Ruppersberger.
