Md. anesthesiology practice acquired

Mednax Inc., of Sunrise, Fla., a national medical group, said it has acquired Physicians Anesthesia Associates P.A., a Towson-based anesthesiology group practice.

This is the first Maryland-based anesthesiology practice to join Mednax’s American Anesthesiology division, which now consists of 24 practices in 10 states.

The acquisition was an all-cash transaction. No further details of the purchase were disclosed.

PAA, which employs 48 anesthesiology specialists, has been the sole provider of anesthesiology services to Greater Baltimore Medical Center since it opened as a regional medical center in 1965.

The practice also provides services to The Sheppard and Enoch Pratt Hospital and four surgical centers throughout the Greater Baltimore metropolitan area.
