AAA Mid-Atlantic projects more than 678,000 Marylanders will 50 miles or more during the holiday , up 2.7 percent from the 2012 holiday.

This represents the highest travel volume by Marylanders for the Thursday-Monday holiday period since the Great Recession ended in 2009.

“There appears to be pent-up demand by Marylanders to get away for the last summer holiday as many stayed put for the first two major summer ,” said Mid-Atlantic spokeswoman Ragina C. Averella.

AAA projects 87 percent of traveling Marylanders will use automobiles, 8 percent airlines, and the remaining 5 percent other modes of transportation.
