Col. Edward C. Rothstein, who until recently was the garrison commander of Fort George G. Meade, has been appointed president and CEO of the Anne Arundel Economic Development Corp.

County Executive Laura Neuman announced the appointment on Monday.

Rothstein, who will start in the new post on Nov. 1, replaces Robert Hannon, who held the position for six years, and Mary Burkholder, who has been serving in an interim capacity.

In the AAEDC post, Rothstein will be the county’s top economic development official, assisting businesses that work with the county, state and federal governments, and promoting the county as the best place to do business.

Burkholder will continue as his deputy and executive vice president.
