BGE seeks increased gas, electric rates

Baltimore and Electric Co. has filed a request with the to increase its gas and distribution rates to its 1.2 million residential and commercial customers in Central Maryland by an average $7 a month.

The utility said it needs the increase to fund improvements to its distribution systems to enhance their safety and reliability. said the proposed increases, if approved, would boost a typical residential electric bill by $4.41 per month, or approximately 4 percent.

The typical residential natural gas bill would increase by $2.50 per month, also approximately 4 percent.

The PSC will review the rate increase request and is expected to make a decision before the end of the year.
