Hotten receives Taylor award
Maryland Court of Special Appeals Judge Michele D. Hotten has received the 2012 James H. Taylor Award from the Prince George’s County Bar Association “for her years of dedication and commitment to the law, the courts and the community.” Hotten was presented with the award during the bar association’s Annual Meeting on June 5.
Hotten was appointed to the Court of Special Appeals in August 2010 and represents the 4th Appellate Circuit (Prince George’s County). Before joining the appellate bench, Hotten served as a judge for the Prince George’s County District Court from June 1994 to November 1995 and for the Prince George’s County Circuit Court from December 1995 to August 2010. She was the civil coordinating judge for the Circuit Court from 2006 to 2010 and served in other leadership positions throughout her tenure as a trial judge. Hotten has been a member of several Judiciary commissions and committees and served on the Court of Appeals Standing Committee on Rules of Practice and Procedure.
After completing her undergraduate education at the New College-University of South Florida, Hotten earned her J.D. from Howard University School of Law in 1979. She is active in several bar associations and has served on the board of governors of the Maryland State Bar Association. She is past president of the Prince George’s County Bar Association and the J. Franklyn Bourne Bar Association.
