Maryland Senate delays work on redistricting

ANNAPOLIS — The has delayed its work briefly on congressional in order to adopt a technical amendment to the plan.

Senate President Thomas V. Mike Miller said Tuesday the Senate will move back in the legislative process in order to take up the amendment. The Senate is then expected to vote on the measure that redraws Maryland’s eight congressional seats for the next 10 years.

The Senate gave initial approval to the bill Monday night after considering a separate amendment by a Republican senator, which was rejected.

The Senate was scheduled to resume late Tuesday morning

Republican senators who oppose Gov. Martin O’Malley’s redistricting plan said the need for the technical amendment was a sign lawmakers are moving too quickly to get the legislation through the Democratic-controlled Legislature.
