Oh, billable hours

I have found myself in this horrible habit where I get weeks behind. I then have to spend hours on a weekend inputting my time. Fortunately, my firm uses TimeMatters, which at least enables me to accurately input time from weeks earlier. I know how much easier it is to put in the time as I go each day. So why don’t I do it?
My first “justification” (cough, cough, excuse) is I’m so busy; something has to give. My second “justification” is that I have TimeMatters.
But, at the end of the day, no good can come from putting off my timesheets. They are not going anywhere. They are a major way in which I justify my job and the only way my firm makes money.
So when I got back from vacation in June, I decided enough was enough. I did not care the consequence — my timesheets would get completed by the end of the day.
For the most part, I’m sticking to it. It is nice not to have the black cloud of timesheets looming over my head. I know that what will take me 10 minutes at the end of the day will take me more than 30 minutes the following week.
So, for all of those less than diligent timekeepers out there, let me stand as an example that recovery is possible, one timesheet at a time.
