The has scrapped its date because of security issues it could not resolve in the new building.

The court is temporarily relocating to the county’s Ascend One building in while renovations to its HVAC system are completed in its building, at 8360 Court Ave.

The court would not discuss the security issues at the Columbia building, but Suzanne James, the court administrator, said the problems need to be fixed before the court can move.

“The court’s very concerned to give the public as much notice as possible,” James said. “We will be in the existing courthouse until the issues are resolved.”

One other issue that led to the court’s decision to postpone its move has since been resolved. Until early last week, Verizon union members had been on strike, which caused the court workers to be concerned that the phone system would not be installed.

“It’s not only really hard on us but it’s hard on the public when we move these dates, so we want to make sure we have them all resolved before we set a new date,” James said.

She said the renovations are projected to take 18 months to complete.
