Prescription contract pulled from BPW

ANNAPOLIS — Gov. Martin O’Malley is pulling a $2.4 billion prescription drug contract from consideration before a state board, saying a challenge to the deal should be completed first.

The Board of Public Works was scheduled to decide Wednesday whether Express Scripts Inc. should win a 5-year, $2.4 billion deal to provide prescription drug coverage to state employees. But O’Malley withdrew the contract for consideration Tuesday.

A challenge before the Maryland State Board of Contract Appeals, from CatalystRx Inc. of Rockville, which currently holds the prescription drug contract, should be worked out before the BPW decides whether to approve a new contract, an O’Malley spokesman said.
